The Getaway House in Los Angeles, California

Sen and I stayed at the Getaway House towards the end of November 2020 as part of their Artist Fellowship program. Here is the journal from Getaway House on our stay.

Getaway, the name says a lot about what to expect while you are there. Each Outpost (cabin) has either one or two (bunk) beds, shower, kitchenette with kitchen essentials, provisions available for purchase, AC + Heat, fire pit + picnic table outside, and NO wifi. They even include a cell phone lockbox in the room for you to truly get away from it all. You can expect a few emails in the weeks leading up to your stay with more information on the Outpost, what's in the cabin, FAQs, what's nearby (so no planning is needed), and even a travel playlist!

Check-in time was at 3 pm, and it's a self-check-in process. They send us an email with Outpost's name and the password for the door close to check-in. The cabin was easy to find, and it had a parking spot almost right outside. They are also dog friendly, so we brought Lumi with us.

Our cabin was right next to a hill with amazing views of the sunrise. I am not usually a morning person, but we caught the pink and purple sunrise during this trip.

We would typically go out to hike since there was a hiking trail right next to our cabin. However, this cabin made us really want to stay in and just soak in the quiet and calmness, so we just sat by the window and sipped on coffee most of the morning.

We then walked around the campsite; there were many more Outposts on the site than I expected. Everyone was really respectful, I didn't hear any neighbors during our stay, and we know the place was busy. Guess everyone else was here to Getaway as well.
